The techniques I used in creating my weaving artwork are the same techniques my ancestors used. I weave on a traditional, vertical Navajo loom using 2 sheds and on occasion multiple sheds. My design patterns are created using diagonal and vertical interlock methods. My designs are original, innovative, traditional, creative, and often telling a story. The materials I use are natural fibers of wool, silk, hemp and on occasion I use high grade turquoise for embellishment. Sometimes I will also use silver buttons for embellishments. The fiber materials are dyed with natural plant dyes and aniline dyes. Some fiber material are natural colors of the sheep. The fiber material are hand spun using the “z” twist and other materials are commercial spun wool. Some materials are spun with hybrid techniques to create a textured yarn, often referred to as “Art Yarn”.Most of my weavings are utilitarian. I weave shawls, men and woman shoulder blankets, Poncho, and wall hanging.
