Santa Clara Pueblo pottery has been passed down for many generations. The process itself could take up to six months to a year. Our clay and white sand are gathered in the mountains. Once our clay is sifted and mixed we then can start the making process. Each piece is made using the coiling method and hand polished by stones. We traditionally fire the pottery with horse manure then to make the pottery two-tone I will intentionally put three or more pieces together touching so it can have the red-black look. Once the Pottery is fired then the etching process will began to create the multidimensional pottery. I will also inlay stones if needed.
