I start each carving with a shed antler elk/deer that I’ve found on my reservation. After the carving, I sand each piece until it’s smooth. My favorite part is the detailing .Then comes the buffing, each piece is done until shiny. After the buffing I add bundles of offerings to each carving. I use various gemstones on the bundles, the various colors represent each cardinal direction. I’m a fourth generation carver who learned from my grandmother who taught me. She seen my always watching, so it was natural for her to pass on the knowledge and tradition. I’m forever grateful for her teaching. I’m blessed to continue our family’s work, while making my own contribution to our family’s legacy.
