I have been carving Hopi katsina dolls since my late childhood years. I learned using only a pocket knife and no rotary tools. I continue to stick to this form of carving. I also prefer to use natural pigments and the feathers that have been gifted to me when decorating my pieces. In the recent years, I have been exploring with new ways of carving my pieces and have won first place 2 years in a row for a new style that I enjoy doing. You can find one of these pieces in the samples I will submit with this application. Kwa-kwah (thank you).
