As a Caddo, I am one of the only ones left that creates our traditional pottery. For traditional work I go and hand dig the clay in our homeland area, collect freshwater mussel shells for temper, and create the clay the old way. I then hand coil, burnished, and engrave the work before pitfiring it in an open ground wood fire the old way. I also create contemporary works of art in the Indigenous Futurism movement by reinterpreting ancestral styles of Caddo pottery into new futuristic or sci fi statement and conceptual pieces. I use both traditional and modern day commercial clay methods for these pieces.
