We use contemporary materials to create pieces that are used in contemporary and traditional Choctaw, Mvskoke and Cherokee life. We use readily available contemporary materials to create our pieces. One of the arts we focus on are basketry. We use traditional methods, passed down directly to us from traditional basket makers. Because of the shortage of traditional materials in our area, we use contemporary flat reed to make Choctaw baskets. Those methods are also used in making new contemporary pieces such as basket woven corsets. We occasionally feature river cane baskets as well.Another art form we often use is diamond making. We have learned how to hand fold diamonds in the traditional way from respected Choctaw dress/regalia makers in our community. We use cotton, and other materials to create diamonds and include them in contemporary ways. Our pieces are all hand made, using appropriate symbolism and imagery from our culture.
