Portfolio Example & Artist Statement

I use traditional, all-natural clays and pigments to make my pottery. I begin by gathering pigment and clay from the areas around me. I construct the base of my pottery by coiling and pinching by hand. I apply the pigments using industrial brushes and fire them in an electric kiln. My grandmother used to tell me stories, which served as my main source of inspiration. The most iconic one to me was about her grandmother's cat in the cornfields. I can continue my family's and pueblo's customs while giving them a personal touch by utilizing her tales, my surroundings, and my own experiences.
