Tanya Lujan

Oki, I am heartened and inspired by the tribes I am affiliated with as a multidisciplinary Artist. My work is dominantly hand stitched, strait stitched, lazy stitch and two needle stitch. I use multiple sizes of beads ranging from 10, 11, 12, 13, 15. When creating I prefer charlotte and vintage cut/seed beads, brass, metal, sequins, sterling silver, 24k gold and garnet gemstone. I often prefer to use brain tanned deer hide, smoked elk or moose hide. At times I will incorporate commercial material along with wools, Teton cloth, fabric, leathers, suedes. Other materials used in adornment are nylon thread, sinew, fabric adhesive bonding, thimbles, antlers, dentaliums. I utilize my traditional knowledge, history and creation stories along with the skill that was taught by my late Grandmother in my pieces. I like to explore my themes with my cultural identity and the history of my Blackfoot/Tsuu'Tina/Cree affiliation.
