I create traditional Santa Clara Pueblo pottery. All materials are locally gathered and the pieces are hand-coiled. The clay is traditional Santa Clara Pueblo clay gathered in a local clay site on the Santa Clara Pueblo reservation. Each piece is then hand-coiled and then painted with a clay slip that is again gathered on the reservation. The pieces are shaped by hand and smooth with gourd pieces. I then polish using polishing stones that have been passed on from generation to generation. To finish the piece I fire them outside in a traditional firing using locally gathered wood. Each piece is unique and true to the traditional way of creating Santa Clara Pueblo pottery.
