All materials used to create Traditional Santa Clara Pueblo Pottery are locally gathered or have been passed down from generation to generation. The clay is locally gathered from a traditional clay site in Santa Clara Pueblo, which has been used since time immemorial. Each piece is made by hand using hand coils and smoothed out with gourds, the pots are then air dried and sanded, and then an additional clay slip is added which is then stone polished. Each pottery is then finished in a traditional outdoor firing process.
