Creation StatementRyan H. SingerI generally create acrylic paintings on canvas. The canvas usually consists of gallery wrappedcanvas; store bought most of the time. I do sometimes stretch my own canvas if I want a size that is notstandard or if a commission requires certain dimensions. This is more time consuming than using storebought canvas. The process is fairly simple, I begin by applying an underpainting using 2-3 different colors mixedtogether and covering the whole canvas. Then I sketch a layout of the painting onto the canvas. I thenstart with background colors, mainly laying down the majority of colors that reside in the background, sky and ground, etc. Then start working on images from biggest to smallest. I then go back and forthwith light and dark areas to balance out most of the painting. Then I will eventually start with detailwork, shading, highlighting, etc. I work on adding more color and definition into the work until thepainting basically finishes itself.
