All natural clays collected from the hills are used for clay, polishing slip and paint to design the pottery. Outdoor firing done with cotton wood bark, cedar and horse manure. Pottery is formed and shaped by hand, either using the pinch pot method or coil method. Also, a puki is used for larger pieces. Smooth river rocks that have been handed down generation to generation are used to hand polish each piece and each piece is designed by hand with a brush and natural clay paints. Firing is done outdoors in enclosed tins. Cotton wood bark is burned and when the color is just right the dome is smothered with horse manure to turn the pottery black. Our red batches are high fired outdoors with cedar wood.
