Upright Navajo loom and tools used by my mother in the last century; graph paper, calculator, color wheel, measuring tape; continuous warping; re-spun commercial weft (wool-mohair blend for size consistency, softness, and strength); unique plain weaving integrated with the crossed-weft technique (developed by artist through trial and error, improving each year), Pick and Pick, single interlocking, hatching; meditation and dreamwork--these I use as a fiber artist (also a retired licensed counselor). Almost 20 years ago I began connecting art with spirituality, encouraged by my mother who said I was too "bilaganna" (Caucasian) in my thought process and a male Navajo teacher who also emphasize use of the right (global) and left (linear) brains and spirituality while weaving.
