Portfolio Example & Artist Statement
Michelle Sisneros

I use a variety of fabrics, such as metallic linen, canvas, silk, velvet, cotton and many more types of textiles. I design fabric by either painting directly to the fabric choice or by transferring my original paintings to fabric by a digital transfer. Depending on the garment I may dye fabric (a white base) to achieve unique colors and blends of my choice. When I get the color, I like; I paint my original artwork to the fabric such as canvas, linen or knits. I use paint brushes, fabric pens, acrylic paint, dye, rubber bands and anything I can experiment with. When I am creating yardage for many of my dresses, skirts, scarves, I use digital transfers of my original paintings. These paintings can be blocked to create patterns. I can then use a combination of my fabric design, fabric purchased from textile companies, and original artwork to create my couture pieces and my ready to wear garments. Lastly, I draw my own pattern styles, such as coats, jackets, dresses to complete a garment.
