Description

I use native clays from my Laguna Pueblo Reservation to create my pottery. My clay, slips, and paints come from the earth and I use the coil method (hand-built) to make my pots and figurines. I burnish the clay surfaces of my pieces with a white slip called epcha and burnish my pots with a river stone. I use a black rock ground down to paint with water to achieve my designs and motifs on my pottery. This black rock is found on the hills of my pueblo. I also traditionally fire my pottery outdoors by using cow manure and wood chips and cover my pots with broken pottery shards to protect them from the fuel (manure) while they are being fired.
