Inspired by my surrounding environment in upstate New York, and my own cultural history, I create traditional Iroquois/Haudenosaunee Raised Beadwork. Through research of antique creations, my work includes traditional woodlands patterns and designs using elements such as artisan glass, shells, semi-precious and precious stone beads. Most of my designs are appliqued on textiles, mainly velvet, and leather. My creations tell a story about my culture, which I share with those interested in my artwork. The most enjoyable of my pieces to make is the velvet pin cushion beaded bird, a tourist item sold along the Niagara Falls region. I have given a modern design aesthetic with bright colors and quality materials to revive and continue my traditional Iroquois / Haudenosaunee arts. With my knowledge and experience, I also share my teachings to members of my community through lectures, displays, and classes with hopes of inspiring others in the art of iroquios / Haudenosaunee beadwork.
