local clay gathered of 2 types, red iron oxide and volcanic ash. mixed with water to make the clay. pottery is then made into (small) pinch pots or (large) coiled pottery. pottery is then burnished with smooth river rocks and painted with red iron oxide. pottery is then fired with cedar, cow manure, and horse manure. final result after firing is black on black pottery, an added technique, a flame can be added to the black on black pottery and the flame re oxidizes the pottery and the flamed touched part will turn from back to red again.
