My artwork is strongly influenced by the beauty of nature. My beliefs and values are firmly rooted in the arctic land my family originates from. Through my art, I intend to develop a sense of appreciation for Canada's north and provide an insight into Indigenous oral storytelling traditions through visual expression. I create and share my art authentically to inspire and educate the viewer. I use curvilinear lines and vibrant colors to create unique landscapes, iconic structures and wild animals. I paint with acrylics on canvas, drums and wood panels. I often embellish the artwork with glass beads and glass glitter, leather hide, fabric, gold/silver leaf and fur depending on the concept. I feel like the embellishments add interest and a connection to Indigenous ways of adornment. My narrative highlights traditional knowledge, the legends and stories of Indigenous peoples, the effects of climate change and the importance of protecting the environment.
