The majority of the beadwork that I do would be classified as Haudenousaunee Raised Beadwork. The technique creates a three dimension look that is very unique to Haudenosaunee people. The materials used are glass beads and various precious stones and other crystal embellishments. Velvets (cotton and silk) and brain tanned hides are used as the base and often times used as the moccasins material. There are various other beading techniques such as flat one needle beadwork, various fringe designs and edging styles. The majority of items I make are all hand sewn. There are many hours assigned to the design and colour selection. As the beads themselves are critical to how dimension is seen on each piece. In the past year I have successfully incorporate my designs and beadwork skills in the creation of a cradleboard which was mainly embellished with raised beadwork.
