'Sheet and Wire Construction' is a term I use to describe the physical process of making my jewelry artwork. Sterling silver and 14 Karat gold metals are cut, bent, shaped and soldered (no cast pieces used) together. Surface textures of reticulation, grandulation, acid etching are just some of the techniques used to make a 2D design more 3D. Different color stone and shell materials are also used to enhance the completed, hand-made, unique, one-of-a-kind designed art piece. My goal is to make 'art' and not just a jewelry piece. Not everyone is enchanted by my works but I've learned that my success is best when I aim to please myself rather than others. 'Southwest Contemporary Jewelry' implies that the main materials and simple constructed techniques used are influenced by past indigenous artisans of the southwest as well as my personal life experience in architecture and mechanical drawing and design. Hence, the challenge/need to see a 2D design become more 3D within a limited space.
