Portfolio Example & Artist Statement

The materials I used is yucca plant and galleta grass which I harvest annually. The materials require numerous preparations before use. The yucca is stripped to workable strands; some are dyed. The yucca when ready to use are woven (wrapped) over a bundle of galleta grass and/or thinner yucca strands; this is done by continuously puncturing into the previous coil and attaching a new coil by stitching with the yucca strands around the bundled galleta grass and/or yucca strands. The dyed yucca is used to create designs. The puncturing is done with a sharp awl.
