I grew up in a community of Pueblo potters. My mother is one of five sisters that madePueblo pottery. They handed this knowledge down to their children, myself being oneof them. This happened throughout the Pueblo of Jemez and surrounding Pueblos aswell. This action, by our Matriarchs, has created a beautiful community of Pueblopotters which I am honored to be a part of.When I create in Native clay I feel a very strong connection to my heritage and I feel asthough I’m fulfilling my grandmother’s legacy by passing on the knowledge of Pueblopottery to others. My work is an extension of myself and I am rooted in my culture andcommunity. My community’s beautiful expression of everyday life is a naturalexperience for me.Living in a rich traditional community has had a profound effect on my creativity and onmy career.
