My sculptures usually have an element of magical realism that takes relatively realistic forms and interprets them to tell the desired story. I often work in ceramic clay but also use metal �clay,� welded metal, and make sculptural forms with glass beads and combinations of beads on leather/suede. I work from photos or life studies. My work is contemporary and not constrained to traditional methods, materials or processes; but instead focuses on the best way to convey the desired message with layers of meaning embedded in intentional choices of mediums, subjects and arrangements of forms. Traditional cultural stories often inform my sculptures but I also draw from modern Native experiences and perspectives to make the work more relevant and accessible to children, young adult, Native and non-Native audiences.
