Description

Textiles are navajo rugs made by using our sheep wool (churro). The wool is sheared and then combed with a handmade carting tool. The wool is then spun with a spinner that is the traditional spinner used by my grandmother. Once the wool is spun it is then put on a skeen and the lightest color of the sheep may be dyed using wild grown plants located in our area. The warp is then put up and the pattern is put in by counting left to right while using the shuttle to open the warp. Traditional patterns are mainly what is used and I use a variety of different sized looms.
