Portfolio Example & Artist Statement
George Toya

My art is a conglomeration of my tribal experiences and is a part of my life that is essential for my existence. My influences are my history, my travel and my observations. The materials I use to create my paintings are mainly paper and canvas. I use a variety of mediums which include water color, acrylic paint, inks, oil paint, pastels and charcoal. Sometimes I sketch an image on paper or canvas then apply the color, sometimes I just apply paint to paper or canvas and watch it evolve. Much of my work involves much detail. I like to use vibrant colors, I achieve the colors by applying thin layers of paint to get the desired intensity. The finished canvas paintings are varnished to protect them and the finished paper paintings and drawings are framed under glass.
