Portfolio Example & Artist Statement

Antique paper, coupons, checks, court documents from mid-1800’s- beginning 1900’s and Prisma colored pencils Technique: I created contemporary ledger art from a female perspective using old paper and colored pencils, the same traditional materials as the ancestors. The paper is carefully chosen to avoid wood pulp making the paper too acidic for longevity. The colored pencils I use are higher quality and quantity than those used by the ancestors. The contemporary images I am known for can be humorous or serious immersed in heritage, iconography and pop culture. Peter Max, the psychedelic pop-art movement, Art Deco and Japanese textiles are influences for my work as well as tongue-in-cheek humor, bright colors, and vivid imagery.
