“Reviving Purpose” is the very essence of my work. It embraces an old technique used by my Pueblo People for many centuries. In the past, frescos served a very imperative purpose through cultures and practices. Many frescos were painted on interior walls of kivas, and ceremonial houses. Each layer of frescos depicted images, and designs for different reasons and served the vital purpose of healing and prayer. Bright colored murals of natural earth pigments depict delicate strokes of paint gathered from the earth. Our environment supplies countless resources and is an essential part of our life. I incorporate rich cultivated earth and ash for the plaster of my frescos. My pigments come from the mesas, arroyos and different parts of the land. I visit ancestral sites for stories the land will share with me. Designs from ancestral pottery and the very few remaining frescos left for us to see is my inspiration.
