I begin my artwork by sketching the outline of human and wildlife subjects with a mechanical pencil. Then I move on to the No. 1 size fine liner brush with black acrylic paint to go over the pencil outline of the sketch. I use GOLDEN ACRYLIC paints for all my projects. I fill in the large areas of the drawing and then fill in the whole canvas. Then it is all about fine details and touch ups working on the shading and highlights of the features to bring emotion and real life elements to the piece. I work primarily from photos of human and wildlife subjects. For human subjects, it is usually a commission pieces from someone who wants me to paint a close relative that they hold dear to them. Most of my work is commissioned for portraits and I am well-known in my local region as a portrait artist. My wildlife paintings are inspired by my upbringing in the Canadian North living out on the land being taught the traditional Dene Life.
