Portfolio Example & Artist Statement

As a self-taught artist, I am very meticulous about the stories that are used in creating the 3 & 4-dimensional storyteller bracelets which I also put in pendants, earrings, buckles and bolo ties. The bracelets are based on the traditional concept of “Walking In Inner Beauty.” The Navajo say, “If you judge someone from the outside you will miss their inner beauty.” Sun rays and moon beams grace the outside of his bracelets, along with ancient petroglyph designs. The inside story depicts a typical way of life on the reservation for the Navajo people, each story is cut out one at a time after they are soldered together. Outer designs consist of reticulate (silver shavings soldered to silver) & rock art designs which gives the appearance of tufa casting. These pieces are all hand crafted using specialized cutting and soldering techniques. The bracelets are cleaned and polished in a specialized way so that the story on the inside will remain as exquisite on the inside then the outside.
