Portfolio Example & Artist Statement

The technique I will be using is Tufa Casting. I will be using tufa stone (volcanic rock) to carve my design in to the stone. To heat up the silver I will use a crucible and propane. Then I will tie two Tufa stones with one or two designs together and pour the silver. To cut out the piece I will use a coping saw. To shape and smooth the sides of the piece I will use a grinder. To solder the piece to a bale, bezel cups. etc. I will use hard solder and acetylene. I will also be using stones like, Coral, Lapis or Turquoise. I will be using a stone cutter to cut my stones. I will use pilers to shape a bail , shepards hook etc. Once I am finished assembling the piece together. I will use a buffing machine to pre buff our some of the imperfections to the piece . I will then wash and dry the piece and use oxidize the piece. I will switch out the buffing wheel for a leather wheel and steel wool to polish the piece.
