Each piece is hand formed using mined shale clay that is processed by soaking, grinding, and sifting. The paint is an iron oxide rock that I grind using rainwater until the consistency is thick. It is then mixed with beet juice or wild spinach juice. A white slip that is also mined and strained is applied and burnished with a smooth rock. The sand pigments I use for color is all gathered and strained through a cloth using only rain water. Each piece is formed and shaped by hand using wooden tools. The paint brush is made from my granddaughters hair. All materials are collected within the vicinity of the Acoma Pueblo. Each piece of pottery has a 3-dimensional element added, and painted with Acoma designs .
