Portfolio Example & Artist Statement

I have been practicing painting for all my life. all of my paintings have a story or a meaning behind them. Throughout my childhood, i have been surrounded by many artistic family members. I like to paint on the cultural philosophy that everything is connected. Recently I have been adding birch bark, sweetgrass, and porcupine quills to my paintings. Harvesting these materials has been a tradition and life practice for my family for generations. I like to showcase these materials in my art to show that I am keeping the culture alive and practicing my ancestors' ways. Also, I want to create new and different art to inspire others. I enjoy painting, I am 30 years old I have been painting since I was 10 years old. I have always been artistic throughout my childhood. Currently, I am trying to make ARTS a career. I am Ojibwe from Batchewana First Nation, Ontario, Canada.
