Boozhoo! My name is Alexa Rae Day from Peshawbestown, Michigan. I am Anishinaabe, Lakota and Hochunk. My work is focused on the revitalization of our Indigenous lifeways. In my art, I also look to our ancestors to show that we are still here. Our art is still being made today. Most of my work is made with old and new techniques and materials. I use traditionally smoked hides, modern stabilizer felt, vintage beads and brand new Czech Charlotte cut beads. I strive to couple our teachings and techniques from the past with new methods of learning of dominant society to strengthen our Indigenous lifeways.
